Bernie Sanders may have lost the race for the Democratic nomination, but out of everyone who played the game this primary season, he's actually the big victor.
The Vermont progressive claims that the United Kingdom's nationalist - and at times, xenophobic - campaign to leave the European Union appealed to the frustrations of British households struggling to get by in the global economy.
In an opinion piece appearing in the New York Times, Sanders wrote that legions of American voters, alienated by the forces of globalization, are ripe for the message of political retrenchment and economic protectionism espoused by Trump.
"Restoring our democracy also means finally passing statehood for Washington, D.C., so that its citizens have full and equal congressional rights as well as the right to have the laws and budget of their local government respected without Congressional interference", the tentative party platform explains in a single sentence.
"Millions of American voters, like the "Leave" supporters, are understandably angry and frustrated by the economic forces that are destroying the middle class", he continued.

Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, responded to the Brexit vote by emphasizing the importance of having an experienced leader during tumultuous times.
Clinton has said she would pay for infrastructure investments through business tax reform, but she has not provided details about what business tax changes she would use to offset infrastructure spending.
"We will end deferrals so that American corporations pay USA taxes immediately on foreign profits and can no longer escape paying their fair share of United States taxes by stashing profits overseas", the platform draft states.
The two campaigns are in talks to resolve their differences, Sanders said.
