China has cautioned Britain against closing the door to Chinese investment and said on Tuesday relations were at a crucial juncture after new Prime Minister Theresa May delayed signing off on the project.
China has issued a strong indication that relations between China and the United Kingdom could be threatened over the decision on the Hinkley Point nuclear project. President Xi Jinping said that they were in a "golden era" of bilateral relations during his visit past year, which secured deals valued at 40 billion pounds.
But as China ramps up the pressure on the United Kingdom government to press ahead with the nuclear project, French unions yesterday called for EDF's board approval to be declared void, in their latest attempt to block the deal.
Sinn Féin MP Mickey Brady has described the pending news that the Nuclear Plant in Hinkley Point, Somerset is supposedly set for final approval as unwelcome and unwanted, saying it added "another deadly danger off our coastline".
Meanwhile, French unions have said the decision by the energy firm EDF to invest in Hinkley Point C should be declared invalid.
His warning comes after the United Kingdom government said last month it wanted until the autumn to review the project.
If Britain's openness is a condition for bilateral co-operation, then mutual trust is the very foundation on which this is built, he wrote. He describes ties as at a "crucial historical juncture" and stresses the importance of "mutual trust" to the two countries' relationship.

He also pointed out that because of the relationship, Chinese investment in the United Kingdom had been greater in the last five years than in France, Germany and Italy combined. The suggestion? Row back on Hinkley and China will interpret the decision as Britain closing the door to China.
It came amid concerns from intelligence agencies that Chinese investment in nuclear projects could be a danger to national security.
He said: "As we've already made clear, this decision is about a huge infrastructure project and it's right that the new Government carefully considers it".
The prime minister's official spokeswoman insisted the government would "continue to seek a strong relationship with China" and needed a "reliable and secure energy supply".
Nick Timothy, May's chief of staff, in a blog post written past year, exposed additional concerns about energy security.
A final decision on Hinkley is due in September.
