Operation Atlantic Resolve saw more than 3,000 USA troops, backed by tanks and heavy equipment , begin their deployment in eastern Europe. On Saturday, the US troops first arrived in the northern German port of Bremerhaven before heading toward Poland.
"This is the fulfilment of a dream", said Michal Baranowski, director of the German Marshall Fund think tank in Warsaw.
Colonel Norrie said: "Their arrival is just one small but meaningful example of how we are quickly building combat power here".
The outgoing Obama administration ordered the deployment in 2014 to reassure eastern allies after Russia's actions in Ukraine.
North Atlantic Treaty Organisation also cut ties with Moscow in 2014 and started to deploy troops and weaponry to Baltic States-Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia-near Russian Federation.
"We perceive it as a threat", President Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
US Military Troops are Being Deployed to Poland to Counter Russian Aggression
President Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday that any country would regard a buildup of foreign military presence near its borders negatively.
For decades, Poland had asked for help in keeping Moscow at bay, but at the same time, President-elect Donald Trump has signaled he could try to pursue a friendly relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The arrival of the USA troops, along with NATO's coming deployment of four multi-national groups in Poland and the three Baltic states, "changes the security calculus on the alliance's eastern flank", Baranowski said, by creating a much-boosted deterrent.
Poland and the Baltic former Soviet Republics requested United States and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation troops after Putin seized Crimea from Ukraine in 2014. The US will deploy to the region an additional armoured brigade that is usually based in Fort Carson, Colorado. However, drills are planned to take place across the country.
The 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, from Fort Carson, Colo., has begun moving into Poland as part of the biggest US military deployment in Europe since the end of the Cold War. It came shortly after Crimea's vote to join Russian Federation as a demonstration of "continued US commitment to the collective security of Europe". The troops will rotate every nine months. After arriving in Germany and gathering in Poland, the first units will fan out across seven countries, from Estonia to Bulgaria.
The equipment and 3,500 U.S. troops are to be deployed along Nato's eastern frontier.
