President Donald Trump will be holding a rally in Melbourne Saturday afternoon in what is essentially a re-election campaign stop being promoted by his campaign.
Although Trump is literally years away from having anyone to actually campaign against, the event does have a sliver of a goal in that attendees must register online and provide personal information including their e-mail addresses, thereby giving the Trump camp new information on supporters from whom they can solicit campaign contributions down the road.
An administration official said Trump would rally supporters at an airport hangar there, the same venue where he held a rally in September.
I heard some jokes yesterday that Trump really just wanted to go back to his Mar-a-Lago resort for the third consecutive weekend, and tacked on a rally nearby to help justify his peripatetic habits, but I think there's more to this.
