IISc Bangalore wins top spots in HRD Ministry's NIRF rankings

Meanwhile, the HRD Minister, was quick to add that the recognition to varsities such as JNU and Jadavpur University was purely for their research and good work. The first edition of India Rankings, based on this framework was released on a year ago. The NIRF was introduced past year to rank Indian universities. NIRF has also moderated the parameters and decided an overall ranking to all the participant universities. The NIRF was launched in September 2015.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi expressed satisfaction over the progress made by the University and congratulated one and all, including the team of Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA) for the achievement.

The state has 14 colleges in the Best 100 list, coming a distant second to Tamil Nadu which has 37 colleges. The NIRF outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country.

Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Human Resource Development, said, "These rankings will help increase the credibility of these institutes". Among the non-IIT institutes, Anna University, Chennai and Jadavpur University, Kolkata topped managing eighth and ninth position respectively in engineering.

The parameters to rank include Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach & Inclusivity and Teaching, Perception, Learning and Resources.

The Indian Institute of Science at Bengaluru in Karnataka is the No.1 higher educational institute in the country as per NIRF rankings, while the Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad in Gujarat is the top management institute. Past year the Bangalore institution was placed at the top and IIM-Ahmedabad was second.

"Unlike numerous institutions or universities, IISc has eminent persons at the helm, but who do not interfere with the faculty members; instead there is encouragement and support from the seniors in the university's administration towards research conducted here". He has contributed to the establishment of the National Centre for Science Information in 1984 and the Supercomputer Education Research Centre in 1994.
