The CBI has arrested Managing Director of Essar group Pradeep Mittal and an Income Tax Commissioner B B Rajendra Prasad in a bribery case of Rs two crore for allegedly getting a favourable tax order from the latter.
Prasad, who was on leave, was arrested in Visakhapatnam and was brought to Mumbai on Wednesday. He allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2 crore for favouring Balaji Trust for an order. During the investigation, which lasted through the night yesterday, the CBI recovered around Rs. 1.5 crore.

"Several incriminating documents, along with details of bank accounts and lockers and property related documents have been seized in the searches and are now being examined", the officer added. CBI has also gathered some documents from Essar company office, it said.
Astatement by Balaji Trust denied allegations regarding "any misconduct" by their executives.

Highlighting the manner in which the money changed hands, the CBI said Prasad got in touch with Choksi through an associate, Visakhapatnam-based Suresh Jain who is in the bullion and real estate business.
The email said Balaji Trust is fully cooperating with the investigation. "On April 21, 2017, an order was passed by Prasad favouring the Trust".
The arrested were produced before a CBI special court in Visakhapatnam to seek custody on Wednesday. Yesterday, Jain was caught red-handed by the CBI while delivering the money.
During the raid and arrest conducted based on a tip-off, the CBI has seized almost Rs 1.5 crore in cash. It was said that the money would be delivered at Prasad's residence in Vishakapatanam.
The accused were all placed under arrest for corruption and related charges even as further investigations were underway. The total value of the company's assets attached stood at Rs 132 crore.
