Aftab Ali, a suspected agent of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI who was arrested on Wednesday in Uttar Pradesh, has been sent on a 9-day remand, police said.
While Aftab was arrested, another suspect was taken into custody and being questioned. He has been to Pakistan and the police believe that the ISI trained him there.
IG Arun said pictures of the cantonment area in Faizabad have been recovered from Aftabâs mobile phone. He will be interrogated to extract information regarding the investigation, a UP ATS spokesman said.
"He was in constant touch with Pakistan High Commission", the ATS statement said. Now settled in Karachi, Meherban was among the six-member group that was pulled out of the Pakistan High Commission in November 2016 for being part of an espionage ring.
ATS officers said several diaries seized from the residences of Naviwala and Qureshi have records of cash transactions made by Naviwala, who worked as an angadia.
Ali had been allegedly approached by the ISI operatives over the phone in 2014 after his visa to meet his relatives in Pakistan was rejected by the high commission three times, an unidentified official told Hindustan Times.

Aftab was also allegedly keeping a close vigil on troop movement in the area, especially between Faizabad and Lucknow and deployment of Army battalions. He is a resident of Khawaspura area of the district.
Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh police had warned of a possible terror attack in the state by ISI-trained militants.
Central Intelligence Agencies have been sharing inputs with the UP Police since February about increased activity of terrorists in the State. Recently, some self-radicalised youths were also arrested by the UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).
