G7 leaders, from left, President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Junker, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Donald Trump, and Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, pose for a family photo at the Ancient Greek Theater of Taormina, Friday, May 26, 2017, in Taormina, Italy.
The German chancellor spoke following the G7 summit, in which leaders failed to agree unanimously on climate change after U.S. president Donald Trump said he needed more time to decide whether to back a key climate accord.
Offering a tough review in the wake of Trump's trip to visit E.U., North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and Group of Seven leaders last week, Merkel told a packed Bavarian beer hall rally that the days when Europe could rely on others was "over to a certain extent". She said that Europeans "must really take our destiny into our own hands, "Agence France Presse reported".
Angela Merkel has suggested Germany and Europe can no longer rely on the U.S. under Donald Trump.
President Trump has said he will make a decision on the climate change agreement in the coming week, but has reportedly told confidantes he plans to leave the deal. Secretary of Defense James Mattis subsequently refuted the rumors in an interview with CBS, saying that Trump is open to various positions concerning the United States participation in the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate.

After the G7 summit, Merkel called the climate talks "very hard, if not to say, very unsatisfactory".
BBC Defence and Diplomatic Correspondent Jonathan Marcus says the mere fact that this is even in question shows just how uneasy the relationship is between Mr Trump and the organisation of which his country is the leading member. Addressing Europe's transatlantic ties back in January, she said: "There are no unlimited guarantees for close cooperation with us Europeans".
Trump and Merkel's extremely awkward press conference.
She told the crowd in the southern German city that special emphasis needed to be placed on warm relations between Germany and the newly-elected French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to polls, the sister parties are expected to win the upcoming general election, securing Merkel a fourth term as Germany Chancellor.
Were Merkel to signal a German pivot away from the USA, she would hardly choose a Bavarian beer party as the venue.
