Fake Twitter accounts usually have no picture, tweets or followers and freaky, nonsensical handles.
These fakes, or bots, often do a poor job of blending in. The Washington Post, BuzzFeed News, Newsweek, Teen Vogue, and left-leaning website Daily Kos shared Niven's tweet, and some prominent personalities shared the initial tweet. Twitteraudit says that the last time his account was audited, four months and one week ago, or shortly after Trump took office, 79 percent of Obama's followers were human and 21 percent appeared to be bots. A Twitter spokesperson confirmed that the @txmockingjay tweet contained unsupported information. But if you check Twitter this morning, you will notice that "covfefe" is the top hashtag (at least top unpaid hashtag).
While it may not have grown very quickly, Trump's account has added more than 2 million followers this month, according to Mashable.
Justin Bieber, also a musician, comes in at second spot on the list of most popular celebrities on Twitter, with a total of over 95 million followers, of which the audit tool claims nearly 57 million are fake.
"I couldn't be sure as I was skimming a lot of tweets so I don't remember the original poster", they said. If you're still curious, you can enter Trump's handle, @realDonaldTrump, into Twitter Audit, a service that assesses the authenticity of one's followers, and find that only 51 percent of Trump's are real.
Trump eyes White House overhaul, outside lawyers and PR team
Will Ivanka and Kushner return to NY as a diversion, or will there be more shake-ups in the Trump administration? It is journalistic protocol to restrict the identification of sources when requested, and where necessary.
North Korea problem 'will be solved'
The United States has for weeks been negotiating a new Security Council sanctions resolution with China. Trump's remarks came ahead of a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe .
Attackers of Egyptian Christians trained in Libya
Egypt's Christian minority, which makes up about 10% of the country's population, has repeatedly been targeted by armed groups. Six air strikes against "terror camps in Libya" were reported by the state-run television.
As the US settled back into its weekday routine Tuesday following the three-day Memorial Day weekend, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to tackle a number of issues, including urging the Senate to expedite actions to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and slamming the USA trade deficit with USA ally Germany.
Twitter users had a field day Tuesday with news of Trump's surge.
"The practice of buying followers has existed as long as Twitter has existed", said Chris Dessi, the founder of Silverback Social.
Trump now has 31 million followers and, sure enough, if you browse through them you will find an unusal number of tweet-less, picture-less accounts that joined the service in May 2017.
Only Trump and perhaps some collection of his advisors know for certain if this president bought any of his 31 million followers. In order to push back on mainstream media, Trump's war room team may be using the additional bot followers to trick the Twitter algorithm into trending/promoting Trump's messages. I noticed just how much the comment threads of major newspapers were beginning to be dominated by trolls and bots last summer, and futilely tried to bring it to the attention of the news media.
