He was received at the Mumbai airport by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his cabinet members, BJP state President Raosaheb Danve, BJP city chief Ashish Shelar, party MPs and MLAs, and a massive crowd of enthusiastic party activists.

Clearing the air on cricketing ties between the two neighbours, he said it was all right for them to play in global tourneys, but not on each others' soil.

"We wish them all the best... we are not perturbed about winning or losing mid-term elections in Maharashtra..." If polls are held then I am confident that we will emerge victorious. "We will give our final decision on the NDA nominee tomorrow", Thackeray said.

Currently, he is Emeritus Chairman of the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, based in Chennai, which he founded in 1987. "If the government tries to cheat them, Sena will throw the loan waiver papers as trash", he said. On the recent farm loan waiver announced by the Maharashtra government, Shah had said through it the state was offering relief to farmers.

"Thackeray further said, But if it is for the development of the nation then we may support". Thackeray said Sena founder Bal Thackeray would proudly say his country is made of Hindus and is Hindustan.

The presidential election is expected to be a close affair this time as neither the ruling BJP nor the opposition parties have the numbers on their side to unilaterally elect the next president of India, the highest post in the country.

In a surprising move, the BJP on Monday proposed the name of Kovind as the NDA candidate for the upcoming Presidential election. Shah, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, visited Thackeray's residence "Matoshree" and held a close-door meeting, which started around 10 am and lasted almost 75 minutes.

The meeting assumes significance for the BJP as the Shiv Sena is the most vocal critic of the party, the Prime Minister and also Fadnavis.

While a host of BJP and Sena leaders were present at the Thackeray home, none of them were part of the meeting.

The BJP chief said the NDA government had taken up the cause of the downtrodden, women, tribals, farmers and weaker sections of society and did not have a single allegation of corruption against it.
