In a video that was supposed to make them famous, Pedro Ruiz reportedly instructed his partner Mona Lisa Perez to fire a round into a book he was holding, thinking the pages would stop the bullet.
The Norman County Sheriff's office says its deputies are investigating a shooting.
'I wish they wouldn't have done it. "It shouldn't have happened at all", Ruiz's aunt Claudia told Valley News Live.
Perez was charged with second-degree manslaughter and is being held until a court appearance Wednesday.

Perez allegedly used a gold Desert Eagle fifty caliber pistol found at the scene to shoot Ruiz.

Perez is pregnant, and the couple's 3-year-old daughter saw Ruiz get shot, TwinCities.com reported.
Ruiz told the station her nephew had told her he wanted to try the stunt.
"We're going to name it Pedro, I want my name to carry on".
The couple's YouTube channel, which is based around video pranks, typically received between 400 and 900 views per video and had 218 subscribers.
Ruiz had set up a GoPro camera and another camera on a ladder nearby to record the stunt, according to the complaint.
