Microsoft's thermostat, called GLAS, was developed in partnership with Johnson Controls. Microsoft has, however, published a video demonstrating the Glas thermostat in use.

There is no word from Microsoft, or Johnson Controls, as to when the thermostat will launch or who it will be released to yet. From the video it looks like Microsoft intends this new devices to be used by businesses as well as consumers. The Glas thermostat with voice controls was announced in a YouTube video, spotted first by The Verge.

GLAS runs on the Windows 10 IoT Core and Microsoft cloud computing service Azure. There's a key focus on reducing energy bills with heating and cooling costs accounting for roughly 48% of the energy use in a typical USA home (probably higher in Australia right now). "In the commercial building sector, the cost is approximately 40 percent", Microsoft states. It has a translucent display, a touchscreen and, of course, it cooperates with Cortana which means that it will be able to automatically change its settings to suit your whereabouts. It simply detects whether you are at home and then tells you the temperature of the room, as well as the air quality outdoors. With Cortana embedded in the device, users will not have to talk to a smart speaker or a smartphone to change the temperature of their homes, as they will be able to do so directly through GLAS. It also has sensors that are created to save energy by changing settings on the fly.

Kelechi Iheanacho: Leicester City reach agreement with Manchester City
Iheanacho made an immediate impact for Man City in the 2015/16 campaign, scoring eight goals in 26 Premier League appearances. It remains to be seen if City decide to sell Iheanacho to Tottenham, who finished above Guardiola's men last season.

According to internal concepts, Cortana is a big part of Microsoft's plans in the smart home space, and that can be seen in the integration of Cortana's voice controls in the GLAS smart thermostat.

Currently, Microsoft and Johnson's pride rivals with other smart thermostats like the Nest, Ecobee, and Honeywell devices. Microsoft has built this thermostat on the Windows 10 IoT Core.

Microsoft says it hopes the smart thermostat will cut down people's electricity bills - heating and cooling accounts for around 48 per cent of energy used in the USA home.
