It is to be said that BJP has nominated party president Amit Shah from Gujarat and Union Minister Smriti Irani as Rajya Sabha candidate. On Thursday, Balwantsinh Rajput, Chief Whip of Congress, Tejshree Patel and P.I.Patel resigned as Congress MLAs and joined BJP.
After resigning as legislator, he said that he had been associated with the Congress party for three and half decades but for the last few months he was disappointed with the party's leadership as he was seen with doubts just because he is a relative of Vaghela.
Chhanabhai Chaudhary, MLA from Vansda constituency, Mansinh Chauhan from Balasinor, Ramsinh Parmar (Thasra) and C.K. Raolji, a legislator known to be close to rebel Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela, submitted their resignations to Speaker Ramanlal Vora. As the Congress members trooped into the Well and started shouting slogans, Naqvi took potshots at the main opposition party saying they would also demand a direction to the Surpreme Court as several of their members are involved in "corruption" cases.
Three have since joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and some others are expected to join.

"Both leaders will contest from Gujarat, where three seats will fall vacant in September".
Besides the six legislators who already quit, two more MLAs have threatened to sever ties with the party. "They called Gujarat a hub of fake encounters and now a hub of stealing MLAs", Naqvi said. "All this is being done when Amit Shah himself is a Rajya Sabha candidate".
"I don't know if these MLAs, who are trying to be very courageous on BJP advice, have been made aware of the consequences of 7-10 years of punishment as per law", he said.
"Shri Punabhai Gambit is a Scheduled Tribes Congress MLA, who had been elected a third time".
Dang MLA Mangal Gavit and Ishwarbhai Patel, another Congress legislator present at the press meet, made similar allegations. The Congress has steadily lost ground in the state in the last two decades of BJP rule, and Amit Shah has announced plans to increase the gap with a target of winning 150 of Gujarat's 182 assembly seats this year.
