A blast near Lahore's Band Road has injured at least 30 people, as rescue officials rushed to the spot to shift the injured to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

An improvised explosive device was reportedly planted on the truck.

The injured were being treated at Mayo Hospital and Mian Munshi Hospital.

Lahore, the capital of Pakistan, has witnessed several terror attacks in recent months.

However this is the route which the estranged Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was about to travel from Islamabad which has prompted the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said Sharif's route in the city would be revised now.

According to the police authorities, the initial investigation suggested that the truck was carrying crates of apricot being transported from Swat to the city.

The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has appealed to Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif to take immediate notice of the miseries of pharmaceutical sector and order resolution of their issues on priority basis, a statement said on Tuesday.

"It was a bomb blast in a fruit truck that wounded 22 persons", provincial Punjabi government spokesman Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said. A number of bikes and cars were also damaged due to its intensity.

The eyewitnesses in the area have said more than 100 vehicles were also damaged in the explosion.

In February, a suicide bomber killed 14 people, including senior police officers, near the Punjab Assembly here.
