Before his departure from Rawalpindi's Punjab House on Thursday morning, Sharif held a meeting with PML-N officials, including interior minister Ahsan Iqbal and Marvi Memon, and expressed anger at the local administration over the low turnout for his rally.

Pakistan's ruling party may field ousted premier Nawaz Sharif's wife Kulsoom or his daughter Maryam from the seat that fell vacant after he was disqualified from holding office, a senior party leader said yesterday.

Meanwhile, in another challenge to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League party, firebrand opposition cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri returned home after mostly living overseas amid pending court-cases against him in Pakistan.

Sources in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said that Sharif was not happy with the turnout in the city and asked party leaders to make more targeted efforts to bring out the supporters.

Talking about development projects, Nawaz Sharif said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a historic project, which will prove a milestone in development and prosperity of the country.

Sharif's travel plan has already upset his rival Imran Khan who in a press conference has alleged that Sharif was disgracing the court by challenging its decision. "Did you not vote for me as your prime minister?". The court termed the salary which was not paid to Sharif as an "asset".

Mr. Sharif is accompanied by hundreds of his supporters. Shehbaz also defended the rally and said it was the fundamental right of every political party to stay in touch with the people.

Party leaders have recently suggested that Abbasi is expected to hold office until elections due next year, a reversal of earlier indications that Sharif's younger brother, Shahbaz, would take over the office. "I leave this for history to determine", said Sharif.

"Will the nation's mandate ever be respected?" he asked.

According to Malik Mohammad, a spokesman in Punjab where Lahore is the provincial capital, security arrangements for Sharif's rally have finalized.

Stressing upon the preparation of a new charter of democracy, which could include subjects like ethics and economy, he said that all political parties should be included in the charter.

Several other smaller rallies joined Sharif's on the way.
