Railway ministry officials said they are still awaiting details of the accident that took place around 5:45 pm.
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief over the Utkal Express Derailment at Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday and announced ex-gratia for deceased Odia passengers, if any. The train accident occurred in Khautali in Muzaffarnagar, which is just around 100 km from the national capital, New Delhi. What's more one coach rammed into a house on the sides of the tracks and destroyed it and two coaches piled one over the other.
Extremely pained by the derailment of the Utkal Express in Muzaffarnagar. "Strict action will be taken against any lapse", he said.
Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad reached the accident spot within hours.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has said that medical vans have been rushed to the site. Rescue operation is underway.

He said PAC and NDRF teams have been rushed to the spot.
At least 10 passenger trains on the busy route were diverted following the accident, a Northern Railway release said.
August 19: Rescue operations are over and restoration works have begun following the deadly Puri-Haridwar-Kalinga Utkal Express derailment, which has claimed 23 lives so far.
