Auburn will open the 2017 season ranked in the top 15 of the Associated Press poll for the third time in four years.

It's the third time that the Bedlam rivals will start the AP poll inside the top 10.

This is the second straight year and fourth time in the last eight years that Alabama will open the season with the AP's No. 1 ranking, which isn't necessarily a positive sign.

West Virginia also will see a number of other ranked programs on its schedule with No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 10 Oklahoma State, No. 19 Kansas State and No. 23 Texas.

In addition to Alabama, the Seminoles host No. 18 Miami on September 16 and No. 16 Louisville on October 21 and travel to No. 5 Clemson on November 11 and to No. 17 Florida on November 25.

This also means that Kirby Smart becomes the first coach in the history of the Georgia program to lead the Bulldogs to a preseason ranking in each of his first two seasons.

The coaches and the media vary only slightly on where Florida belongs nationally heading into the 2017 college football season. But none of those teams won the national title.

This the biggest gap between the two highest-ranked SEC teams in a preseason poll since 1980, when the top SEC teams were No. 2 Alabama and No. 16 Georgia. The Irish will open up the 2017 season when they host Temple on September 2nd at 3:30pm at Notre Dame Stadium. If the Cats can win one of those two games, they'll be in good shape for the Big 12 Championship Game.

Florida owns the nation's longest season-opening winning streak of 27 games but was drubbed 41-7 by MI in the Citrus Bowl to end the 2015 season, one of the Gators' worst showings since McElwain took over as coach of the program.
