Ambassador Shirinskiy died of natural causes, according to local police. The Russian Foreign Ministry has verified the news.
The ambassador showed symptoms of an acute heart attack, embassy staff told the state broadcaster.
The diplomat died while swimming in the pool of his residence, according to state broadcaster Russian Federation 24.
Embassy spokesman Sergei Konyashin said the staff called an ambulance but doctors were not able to save the ambassador.
These include Russia's Ambassador to India, Aleksandr Kadakin, who died in late January in New Delhi at the age of 67, reportedly of heart failure, and longtime Russian ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, who died suddenly in February in NY on the day before his 65th birthday, apparently of a heart attack.

Alexander Kadakin, Russia's former ambassador to India, died in January after a brief illness and Andrey G. Karlov, Russia's ambassador to Turkey, was killed at an art gallery in Turkey.
Before taking his post in Sudan, Shirinskiy served at the Russian embassies in Egypt, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Rwanda.
He studied at Moscow Institute of International Relations and had been appointed as ambassador to Khartoum in 2013.
