Tax reform, said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, "allows him to connect with the American people on an issue that most Americans get".

Trump says in Springfield, Missouri, that his tax overhaul plan will be "pro-growth, pro-jobs, pro-worker and pro-American".

The tax code is 10 million words and is more than six times as long as it was in 1955.

Republican Congressional leaders and the White House have yet to reach an agreement on the details of the tax plan.

President Trump chose a Midwestern manufacturing setting in Springfield, Mo., to debut his tax pitch.

"The president is determined to energize the American economy, especially with the necessary tax cuts for job creators", Ortiz said in a statement.

He referred to Democrats in Congress as "obstructionists", citing their votes against the repeal of Obamacare and appointments made by the new administration.

"I don't want to be disappointed by Congress, do you understand? That means getting rid of loopholes and complexities that primarily benefit the wealthiest Americans and special interests", he said, calling for simplifications that would allow Americans to file their taxes on a "single, simple page without having to hire an accountant". "And there was something missing from what President Trump said - I hope he will say it later today - but that's the empathy for the people who suffer".

"I was with President Bush when he went to see the devastation caused by fires in Arizona and tornados in Missouri", Fleischer said.

Announcing his plans, Mr Trump claimed American businesses pay too much tax compared to other countries.

Instead, Trump focused on his overall "vision" for fostering job creation and economic growth by cutting rates and overhauling the tax code.

While the administration and GOP lawmakers maintain tax reform will be completed by year's end, some experts believe that could be a challenging task when there is intraparty division on some key provisions.

"We're working right now on NAFTA - the disgusting, awful NAFTA deal that took so much business out of your state, out of your cities and towns". The policy postulate that businesses would "ideally" be taxed at a top rate of 15 percent and that the tax code would contain incentives for child care.

Trump's speech framed the proposed tax cuts as a boon to middle-class workers like the Loren Cook employees who attended the speech.

He vowed to lower the corporate tax rate, bring companies back to the U.S. "And if she doesn't do it for you, you have to vote her out of office".

Congress will have the chance to take up the tax debate when it returns to Washington next week.

Like it or not, at this point, Trump is only a bit player on tax reform.

The idea that the US could gain a competitive advantage by lowering corporate tax rates below those of other developed counties is supported by many conservative groups.
