About 70,000 people are attending the art and music celebration in the Black Rock Desert, about 100 miles (161 kilometers) north of Reno.
A man has died after running into the titular massive effigy being burnt at the climax of the 2018 Burning Man festival.
Horrifically, Aaron Mitchell ran into "the Burning Man festival's signature burning of a towering effigy", reported SFGate, was pulled back out of it, and was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died.
The AP notes that "Attendees have tried to run into the flames [before] as a symbol of rebirth". In a statement, the Burning Man organization said it canceled other burns scheduled for Sunday, but will hold the traditional Temple burn Sunday night.

Burning Man spokesman Jim Graham said the event is proceeding apace.
"We're aware this incident has affected not only those who responded immediately on the scene, but also those who witnessed it, and our Black Rock City community more broadly", organisers said.
The 138-square-mile (359-square-kilometer) wildfire is now 28 percent contained.
