West Indies laid down a significant marker ahead of the ODI series as they comfortably beat England by 21 runs in their sole Twenty20 fixture at Chester-le-Street yesterday.

Three spectators suffered injuries, and a further 200 had to be moved to another part of the ground, following the partial collapse of a temporary stand at the Emirates Riverside during the T20I between England and West Indies.

We shall anyhow see the return of Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard in the West Indies' national side.

Hales's exit was the start of a slump that saw England lose three wickets for four runs as 64 for one soon became 68 for four.

While the West Indies also have two World Cup titles behind them, England have yet to win a major global one-day worldwide trophy, with the 2010 World Twenty20 in the Caribbean their lone piece of worldwide Cricket Council silverware.

"Conditions were soft and slippery, the umpires were close to calling it off actually". We kind of gave it an ultimatum... we got the outfield roped and we were in agreement that if it continued to be unsafe or if anything dramatic or drastic happened we'd call it quits.

"Losing the game was losing three wickets in that period", said Morgan.

England's response got off to a bad start with Jason Roy caught for a first-ball duck, and Hales was dropped on zero before he was bowled by Brathwaite having smashed eight fours and one six.

Brathwaite didn't not feature in the preceding Test series, which England claimed 2-1 after winning the 3rd Test at Lord's.

But Yorkshire's Plunkett, who is in the England squad for the match, feels the time may be right to rest Stokes.

In the end Rovman Powell's 28 was enough to lift the West Indies to 176/9 with a short rain delay stretching out the Windies innings.

The latest perceived slight for the one-off evening Twenty20 match to be played against West Indies on Saturday night - temperatures are expected to peak at 13C at around 6.30pm and decline steadily from there - is the omission of the local hero, Ben Stokes.
