Colorado State University student Savannah McNealy was wrapping up a night of birthday celebrations when she and others were gunned down outside a Fort Collins, Colorado, condominium complex Thursday.

The complex is one block from Colorado State and directly across the street from a student housing complex.

Three people, including a female Colorado State University student, were killed in a shooting near the Fort Collins campus early Thursday.

Fort Collins police identified the suspected gunman as Michael A. Zamora, 30.

Campus police alerted students about the shooting and warned them to stay inside.

In a statement, F.E. Warren Air Force Base said Zamora was a staff sergeant assigned to the base near Cheyenne, Wyoming, about 60 miles (95 kilometers) north of Fort Collins.
