Colorado State University student Savannah McNealy was wrapping up a night of birthday celebrations when she and others were gunned down outside a Fort Collins, Colorado, condominium complex Thursday.
The complex is one block from Colorado State and directly across the street from a student housing complex.
Three people, including a female Colorado State University student, were killed in a shooting near the Fort Collins campus early Thursday.
Fort Collins police identified the suspected gunman as Michael A. Zamora, 30.
Campus police alerted students about the shooting and warned them to stay inside.
In a statement, F.E. Warren Air Force Base said Zamora was a staff sergeant assigned to the base near Cheyenne, Wyoming, about 60 miles (95 kilometers) north of Fort Collins.

Kemp's aunt told 9NEWS he was an Air Force veteran working as a civilian contractor for the military. Kemp, McNealy and the surviving victim were given a ride to an apartment complex before 2 a.m. on October 19 located one block west of the CSU dormitory towers.
Frank wrote, "Savannah majored in Art and would have graduated this December".
Police say the third victim is hospitalized and expected to survive her wounds.

The name of the suspected shooter has not yet been released to the public. Police confirmed Zamora owned the handgun and two rifles found at the scene.
He also mentioned that there will be a vigil for McNealy on Friday at 4 PM near the Ram Walk.
"This tragedy, occurring so near our campus, brings into sharp focus the value of life everywhere", university president Tony Frank said in an email to students and employees.
