"Rand-Paul" class="local_link" >Sen. Rand Paul was assaulted in his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Friday, according to Kentucky State Police. He is being held at the Warren County Detention Center, with a court date scheduled for November 9.

In a statement, Paul spokeswoman Kelsey Cooper said the Republican senator is "fine".

Police released few details about the assault or what led to the confrontation between Paul and the 59-year-old suspect arrested in the incident. The Warren County Attorney's office then issued a warrant for Boucher's arrest for assault causing a minor injury.

A man has been arrested and charged with assaulting and injuring U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police responded to a call at 3:21 p.m. Friday concerning an incident at the Paul residence, authorities said in a news release cited by CBS News.

Bousher was taken into custody and was charged with fourth-degree assault. It was not immediately clear how they knew each other.

Investigations into the reasoning behind Paul's assault are still underway.
