The change comes just over a week removed from the Survivor Series PPV, and has immediate ramifications. This was billed as a champion vs. champion match.
It seems as if WWE is finally listening to the fans and is giving them what they want. AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal in the main event of the taping, becoming a two-time WWE Champion in the process. However, now that AJ Styles not only replaced Mahal as WWE Champion but as Lesnar's Survivor Series opponent, WWE doesn't need Cena to bolster the match. It's the classic David vs. Goliath scenario.
Though he was originally scheduled to referee a match at the show, John Cena will instead be wrestling at Survivor Series. Shorn of the belt, Mahal will no longer compete against WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at the event, with the new incumbent taking his place.

However, Twitter users - or, at least, a lot of them - did not sound off with the same level of enthusiasm when the news broke. Only five percent of users went above 140 characters during the test, and only 2 percent ever went north of 190 characters.
