A suspect is in custody following what appears to be an attempted terrorist attack at New York City's Port Authority Bus Terminal Monday morning.
Police believe that the bomb - described by police as a "low-tech device" - went off prematurely between Seventh and Eighth Avenues on 42nd Street and could have been intended for a busier destination.
The A, C and E subway lines were being evacuated, Sgt. Brendan Ryan told HuffPost.
Ullah suffered the worst injuries but three others sustained minor injuries related to the explosion, including ear ringing and severe headache, Deadline reported.
New York Mayor Bill De Blasio said: "This is the most resilient place on earth, we proved it just over a month ago, we proved it on 9/11". The device, a pipe bomb, was attached to Ullah with Velcro and zip ties, said John Miller, NYPD deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism. The 7:30 a.m. blast filled the passageway, crowded with throngs of Monday morning commuters, with smoke. Avoid the area. Subways bypassing #PortAuthority and Times Square Stations.
Aerial footage from the scene showed police cruisers, emergency vehicles and hundreds of police and fire personnel in the street outside the terminal.
