The ordinance approved last year by the Miami Beach City Commission set a minimum wage of $10.31 an hour to take effect in 2018, with the wage going up $1 a year to $13.31 on January 1, 2021.

As a broader minimum wage increase for NY workers goes into effect Sunday, fast-food workers in the state will be getting a raise, too. Instead of increasing minimum wage, Goodell said he has advocated for other ways to help, such as increasing the earned income tax credit and focusing on job mentoring and training.
