After winning gold in 2014 she also claimed a world championship in 2015 and 2017.

After a trio of delays due to strong winds, the decision to shut things down came an hour after the event was supposed to have started on Wednesday morning on the slopes of South Korea. The wind gusts have been strong enough to push people around; by evening, metal detectors outside venues and all signage were laid down on the ground, to prevent them from being picked up by the gusts.

"When you have gusty winds like that, it is hard to have a fair race, and the weather forecast called for winds to increase throughout the afternoon, right around our proposed start time for both runs, so that was a red flag for officials as well". For the cross-country skiing Annika Taylor made her Olympic debut on Sunday in the Skiathlon and the 24-year-old is looking forward to an improved performance in Thursday's 10km Free race.

"The competition is run by the International Ski Federation", International Olympic Committee spokesman Mark Adams said.

"We hope we can have races under decent, acceptable conditions".

It said the event will start at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, with the second run slated for 1:15 p.m. on the same day, reports Yonhap news agency.

The slalom runs take place Tuesday evening in the US, and in the early hours of the morning in the United Kingdom and Europe on Wednesday-with the start scheduled for 10:15 a.m. local time.

Atle Skaardal, chief race director for women's FIS races, said he was optimistic of staging both the giant slalom and slalom on Thursday and Friday respectively.

Friday is predicted to be even colder (-16C), with the start of the slalom due to kick off with winds of 25km/h, according to the Korea Metrological Administration. Both were postponed because of wind.

"I'm just pretty disappointed with the organizers to make us ride in these conditions", Canadian snowboarder Spencer O'Brien told CBC Sports.

"We do a really unsafe sport and this was really not a showcase of what these women can do", she added. Biesemeyer was taken to a medical clinic where he was treated and released. "Next few days will be important", he said. "The No. 1 thing is safety and the second is having a good, fair race, and neither one of those were achievable today..."
