In a transcript released Friday night, Denney Pate with FIGG Bridge Group said the cracking would need repairs but the company didn't think it was a safety issue.

FIGG said it was working with the construction team to figure out why the bridge fell.

Aref noted that this so-called "cable-stayed" bridge design called for a central pier or pylon, supporting a tower from which cables would run in diagonal lines to various points along the span. Normally with such a bridge, he said, the pier would be erected first.

"It's going to be a long process", Perez said of the removal of trapped vehicles.

At least 10 people were taken to hospitals; two remained in critical condition on Friday, officials and local news media reported.

"It looks literally like a bomb went off", Llera said.

Doctors and medical students ran to the scene from a nearby building and started treating victims, said Isabella Carrasco, a student at the University of Miami who had passed under the bridge in a auto just before the collapse.

Authorities have not identified any of the victims and have said crews may find more people as they continue digging through the rubble.

Workers will painstakingly break down the giant chunks of fallen concrete so they can be removed safely.

The pedestrian bridge was an FIU project which means the university and its contractors are responsible for reviewing plans, permits, and inspection. Marco Rubio offered this scenario: "The cables that suspend the Miami bridge had loosened and the engineering firm ordered that they be tightened". Here we are establishing a real, practical application of what we learn in the classroom.

Sheriff Scott Israel said that the video showed the deputy doing "nothing" as the gunman killed 14 students and three educators. A judge granted that request, and neither the school district nor the Broward County Sheriff's Office appealed the ruling.

He was a vital part of the Superbowl XLI, catching a touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers against the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2011. A second-round pick in 2008 from Kansas State, he's hauled in 550 passes for 7,848 yards and 69 touchdowns.

FDOT said in their release that no one in the office heard the voicemail until Friday, a day after the collapse.

Thursday, law enforcement responded to the intersection of Southwest Eighth Street and Southwest 109th Avenue west of Miami to the bridge collapse.

The NTSB says their investigation is really only beginning as they slowly begin to remove debris from the collapsed bridge.

"Until all the pieces are put together to transmit the loads safely to the foundations, these bridges may suffer disproportionate or full collapse due to instability", Aref said.

"Both companies expressed condolences for the victims and promised cooperation with investigators". A TSA worker at Fort Lauderdale airport filed a lawsuit against Munilla alleging "shoddy work" that caused injuries in another footbridge project.

Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa confirmed Alexa Duran's death in a tweet and said she was the "daughter of an Ecuadorian father".

"FIU is about building bridges and student safety". The company has built terminals at south Florida's airports and cruise ports, and a school for the United States government at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba.

According to a GoFundMe page set up for the family, Brandon Brownfield was driving home from work when the collapse happened. FIU is the second-largest public university in Florida, with about 50,000 students.

"The bridge was about collaboration, about neighborliness, about doing the right thing", he said. But the state Transportation Department said it had no knowledge of any such tests being scheduled since the bridge was installed last Saturday.
