President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Sunday to unload on James Comey over his forthcoming memoir, calling him "slippery", suggesting he should be in jail and labeling him "the WORST FBI Director in history, by far!"
Regarding a private dinner with Trump where the president demanded loyalty, Comey compared it to the Mafia induction ceremony of Sammy (The Bull) Gravano.
Apparently, Comey's decision to make the October, 2016 announcement that the FBI investigation into the Hillary email scandal was made while Comey was "operating in a world where Hillary Clinton was going to beat Donald Trump".
The President has been highly critical, and public with his criticism, of Mr Comey since firing him in May past year over his handling of the FBI investigation into Mrs Clinton's emails and the inquiry into Russian interference in the election.
Six days ago, President Donald Trump was planning to spend his Sunday morning in Bogota, conducting breakfast diplomacy across from the leader of Colombia, a burgeoning United States ally.
The book also includes strikingly personal jabs at Trump that appear created to irritate the president. Comey's book is already at number 11 on Amazon's bestsellers of 2018 - Michael Wolff's Fire and Fury, another Trump presidency-focused book, is now at number one. "Was (Lynch) promised a Supreme Court seat, or AG, in order to lay off Hillary".
"I never asked Comey for Personal Loyalty", tweeted Trump, who purportedly asked Comey for a loyalty pledge.
Trump has assailed Comey as a "showboat" and a "liar".
It would be hard to imagine a characterization further from the self-portrait Comey draws in his memoir, tracing the development of his career and his character from high school through years as a prosecutor, deputy attorney general, private lawyer, law professor and Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

Unlike Michael Wolff's "Fire & Fury", which caught the White House unawares when it was published in January, the administration had weeks to polish its rebuttal rhetoric for Comey's book. He also has upcoming meetings in Washington with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and is still preparing for a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un within the next two months.
- Comey wrote that he often wondered why, when given numerous chances to condemn Russia's invasions of its neighbours and repression, even murder, of its own citizens, Trump refused to state plain facts.
Mrs Clinton blames his decision to reopen the email probe 11 days before the 2016 election for her surprise defeat. He lied to Congress under OATH.
Trump has launched a series of attacks since past year against US law enforcement leaders and institutions as the Russian Federation probe pressed forward, in addition to Comey and Mueller. Kelly has been increasingly marginalized in the White House and the president has mused to confidants about firing him.
The insult slinging has officially begun, and neither Trump nor Comey minced their words. "It was my great honor to fire James Comey!". "To draw us in", Comey writes in an excerpt cited by ABC. Instead, he writes, they launched into a strategy session about how to "spin what we'd just told them" for the public.
Trump had responded to the book, saying Comey "should be prosecuted".
"For my entire career, intelligence was a thing of mine and political spin a thing of yours".
Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress who alleges she had sex with Trump and was paid for her silence, will be sitting in the courtroom.
