Osorio, who is hoping to break Mexico's run of six successive round of 16 World Cup eliminations, said he spent a lot of time making sure complacency did not creep in after their win over Germany.

Mexico had their second of the game in the 66th minute, however, when Hernandez collected a super pass from Lozano before finishing low into the bottom corner of the net to register his 50th worldwide goal.

South Korea, meanwhile, once again had Ki Sung-yeung and Son Heung-min in their starting XI, but Kim Min-woo and Ju Se-jong both came into the team following the 1-0 defeat to Sweden.

A win gave Mexico six points in Group F - and it's looking likely that Mexico can emerge as the victor of the group and avoid a Round of 16 showdown with Brazil.

The goal was Hernandez's fourth at a World Cup, taking him to the same level as Luis Hernandez as Mexico's most prolific goal scorer at the premier global soccer tournament. "We must make sure the euphoria doesn't get the better of us and dedicate our efforts to recovering for the next game (against Sweden)".

Anxiety hit us hard, says Brazil coach Tite after Switzerland draw
Switzerland survived a Neymar free kick and another corner kick in the final minute of stoppage time. The pressure will now be on Brazil to kickstart their campaign when they face Costa Rica on Friday.

Switzerland hold Brazil to 1-1 draw
The match was pretty much all Brazil from the beginning, but outside of its lone goal, the ball just didn't want to go in. But Switzerland successfully resisted late Brazilian pressure to earn a point in their opening Group E fixture.

Edson Alvarez was brought in as centre back for Mexico's World Cup Group F game against South Korea on Saturday in the only change made by coach Jose Luis Osorio after the Latin Americans defeated defending champions Germany. South Korea lost its opening match. A volley from Vela skimmed the bar minutes later.

Carlos Vela put them ahead from the penalty spot in the 26th minute at Rostov Arena, which had been taken over by Mexico's sea of fanatical supporters.

Ki Sung-yueng threatened in the 56th minute with a ferocious drive that Guillermo Ochoa could only gather at the second attempt, before Cho did well two minutes later to keep out a curler by Guardado at full stretch.

Carlos Vela stepped up to slot the ball home, sending South Korean goalkeeper Cho Hyun-Woo the wrong way from what was the 14th penalty in 28 games at Russian Federation 2018.

Mexico will clinch their place in the next round if Germany fail to beat Sweden in the other Group F game later on Saturday.
