If this all works out and the Thunder do bring George back, it will be a massive success for Oklahoma City.
Paul George is chronicling his free agency in a three-part ESPN series, and says the process is overwhelming.
This is definitely the biggest indication that the 28-year-old is likely to stay with the Thunder next season. He also reported that George "is no longer assured" to sign with Los Angeles this summer. In George's final game, one in which Westbrook scored 46 points on 43 shots, he finished with just five points on 2-of-16 shooting. A recent report by the Orange County Register's Mark Heisler included this quote from a source identified as a general manager for an Eastern Conference team: "LeBron is doing what he does: calling players on other teams he wants to play with".
By not opting in to the final year of his existing deal, George opens up an array of possibilities - such as going elsewhere, possibly the Los Angeles Lakers, or signing a new deal with Oklahoma City.
Paul George will opt out of his Thunder contract and become a free agent.

Tom Cole, a member of the whip team and an ally of GOP leadership said about the prospects for passage. Asked about the message, spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said by email that it was just a jacket.
But the situation is believed to have been complicated after a year spent alongside Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City, with whom the five-time All-Star has developed a close friendship.
"As LeBron James remains hesitant to be the first superstar to decide on the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency, pressure is mounting for the Lakers front office to execute a trade with the San Antonio Spurs to acquire disgruntled All-NBA forward Kawhi Leonard, league sources told ESPN".
In regards to George, it is unclear how quickly he'll make a decision on his next team.
George averaged 18.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals during his seven seasons in Indiana. In a way, it's like I want to come here, and play for the home team and put a Lakers jersey on. However, he could opt to sign a "one-and-one deal". Young went on to say that it's unclear if the party is a recruitment tool (if so - good on you, Russ) or something more, but it's all very interesting.
