Microsoft has unveiled its smallest and least expensive Surface tablet yet, a long-rumored portable device that will compete with Apple's iPad Mini. Working closely with Intel to optimize power, performance, and battery, the Surface Go is powered by a 7th Generation Intel Pentium Gold Processor 4415Y and offers up to nine hours of battery life.
The Surface Go has been priced $399 which applies to the base version with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of SSD storage. It's a smaller, cheaper Windows 10 Surface device that can run all the same full-blown applications as its larger sibling, assuming you take advantage of the free software upgrade of course.
The Redmond company announced the new tablet after a Microsoft Twitter account sent out a teaser Monday with a picture showing four other Surface versions and the tagline "Where will Surface go next?" This will considerably jack up the cost of the Surface Go all-in-all. Apple's iPad poses another formidable challenge - Surface Go is closer in price to the entry-level ($329) iPad than the more robust iPad Pro.

We now know that to be the Surface Go and it'll land on 2 August 2018.
Available for pre-order starting today - although the listing isn't now live on the Microsoft Store at time of writing - the Surface Go will be available for purchase from 2 August.
