Ritz Cracker products containing cheese recalled over Salmonella fears

The recall comes amid a flurry of food product recalls affecting Loblaws and Ritz products. These products contain whey powder as an ingredient, which the whey powder supplier has recalled due to the potential presence of Salmonella.

Mondelez Canada is recalling cheese and pizza flavoured Ritz Bitz due to possible salmonella contamination. No other Mondelez Global LLC product is included in this recall. "Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea".

In rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.

Both recalls were issued Friday, and advise consumers who have the products listed below to throw them out or return them to the store where they were purchased.
