On Friday, Gaza health officials said Israeli forces killed seven Palestinians in protests along Gaza's border.
Major Ben Halel, an officer in the Paratroopers Brigade who commanded the troops during the incident, said the Palestinian was armed with a knife and tried to attack a soldier, who opened fire at close range and killed him.
Four Palestinians were killed along the fence east of Al-Bureij in the centre of the Gaza Strip, while one died east of Gaza City, Dr Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman for the health ministry, said.
However, senior members of the Israeli defense establishment opposed Liberman's order, arguing that a distinction should be made between the fuel provided by Qatar and Israel, according a report by Haaretz. He said an investigation was underway but did not give further details.
The Israeli military has been criticised by Palestinians and worldwide human rights groups for its lethal response to the protests.
The majority were killed during border demonstrations, though others have died in airstrikes and tank shelling.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh pledged that the border violence would continue, saying, "Woe to you if you stop the march of return before the siege is lifted".
The protests have regularly occurred on Fridays, with as many as tens of thousands of Palestinians gathering at multiple locations along the Gaza fence.
