As soon as the elections, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make his bid to return to power amid hectic parleys by several political parties to put a united fight against the ruling BJP, are announced, the model code of conduct will come into force.
Polling in Karnataka will be held on April 18 for 14 constituencies and for the remaining 14 will be on April 23.
"The Hindi heartland - barring Uttar Pradesh - has charged up due to the Pakistan issue", said Yashwant Deshmukh, founder of CVoter, referring to the northern state of Uttar Pradesh that sends the largest number of lawmakers to India's lower house of parliament and is a key battleground for the election.
The Assembly polls in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim will be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission (EC) announced on Sunday, 10 March.
"In 2014 we had the Lok Sabha elections on time and the Assembly elections on schedule even after the most devastating floods", he tweeted.
The Commission has directed that the use of public address system or loudspeakers during the entire election period starting from the date of announcement of the election and ending with the date of declaration of results, shall not be permitted at night between 10.00 p.m. and 6.00 a.m.

The EC on Sunday announced that the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls will be held from 11 April to 19 May and the votes will be counted on 23 May.
The term of the current Lok Sabha ends on June 3.
Similarly, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Puri and Bhubaneswar parliamentary constituencies will see the third phase elections on April 23, the last phase polls will be held in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur constituencies on April 29.
In the upcoming CWC meet, to be held in Ahmedabad on March 12, the party will finalise the party's manifesto, which has been in the works since October previous year. However, on account of security reasons, the poll panel did not give dates for Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which are also due.
The meeting has been scheduled for 12 PM today, and would be chaired by chief election commissioner Sunil Arora, News18 reported. It is generally believed that the Election will be held during the months of April and May.
