Apple is expected to unveil a television and video service at an event on March 25, a move that will amp up competition for Netflix and others that deliver entertainment programming online.

As per Bloomberg, Netflix Chief Executive Officer, Reed Hastings, asserts consumers should "watch our content on our service", affirming its "chosen not to integrate onto their service". "We want to have people watch our shows on our services", Apple Insider quoted Hastings as saying in a Netflix press conference in Los Angeles on Monday. That's in addition to the original programming that we know Apple has been working hard to develop for their subscribers.

Apple reportedly wants a 30 percent cut of revenues - untypical for distributors in the TV and film industry.

"We've always had massive competitors", Hastings added.

Given that Apple's service - at least at launch - will be heavily reliant on outside suppliers to fill up its content library, there had been some discussion that the company might partner with Netflix to some degree. "We've been competing with Amazon in video streaming".

Apple will announce the streaming initiative alongside other new products, including a magazine subscription bundle, at the event in Cupertino, California.

Besides deeper roots, part of what Netflix sees as the strength in Netflix's arsenal is the company's global growth, with programming indigenous to major non-English-speaking markets and demographics as well as Fortress North America.

For instance, Netflix was never part of Apple's TV app. Netflix's content head Ted Sarandos even said that Apple hadn't been an important revenue source for the company.

"You do your best job when you have great competitors", he said, but acknowledged that sourcing original content is getting more expensive. The company declined to comment on Hastings's comments.
