In addition to Jones and first-overall pick Kyler Murray, the only other quarterback taken in the first round was Dwayne Haskins-at No. 15.

Immediately after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the pick, Giant fans took to Twitter to announce their displeasure with the pick and members of the media laughed in the face of Jones.

If you see any Giants fans this weekend, you might want to give them a hug, because it's been a rough 24 hours for the members of Big Blue nation. Whenever they turn the page to back their new heir to Eli Manning, here is a source of optimism.

Gettleman indicates the sixth overall pick could find himself sitting on the bench for three or more years. His steadfast loyalty to a fading Manning was a problem. Trading Beckham without bolstering a porous and lackluster defense is punting on 2019, intentional or not.

The Jones pick will be under immediate scrutiny.

A different reporter, seemingly incredulous about the response, asked if he really suggested Jones, taken at No. 6 overall, might sit for three seasons.

The 21-year old rose up draft boards during the evaluation process, and former head coach and current ESPN analyst Rex Ryan rated Jones the second-best quarterback in this year's class.

Reports have also indicated Jones' relationship with former Manning (Peyton and Eli) quarterback coach and Duke head coach David Cutcliffe was a primary driving force NY drafting of the signal caller.

Anyone taking over for Manning would have found himself under a harsh spotlight.

No wonder they have gone from Super Bowl champions to laughingstock in less than a decade.

Truth be told, it would be fair to criticize all three of the Giants' first-round picks.

Now Jones and Gettleman go forward hand in hand. The Giants could have drafted a quarterback past year with players like Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen and Lamar Jackson.
