An Afghan commando Saturday killed two American soldiers and wounded two others during a joint operation in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said, in the latest so-called insider attack on worldwide forces.
Khogyani said that the Afghan soldier had been killed during the attack.
A spokesman for US forces in Afghanistan earlier told CBS News they were "aware of an incident" involving USA troops in the eastern part of the country.
In a statement, the Pentagon said the wounded soldier had been evacuated for treatment and the incident was under investigation.
Vice President Pence addressed the attack in his remarks at an event in Wisconsin on repealing Obamacare.
"Allow me to take a moment to acknowledge what I learned about on my way to Wisconsin, the loss of service members that took place in Afghanistan".
The three previous USA soldiers deaths in Achin make up the entirety of US combat fatalities in Afghanistan in 2017.
The Taliban on their part have pronounced it as part of their ongoing annual offensives, and claimed four US soldiers had been shot dead.

The Afghan branch of the Islamic State, known as ISIS-K, is mainly composed of militants pulled from other groups and has turned into one of the main counterterrorism efforts for the United States in Afghanistan.
In April, the United States military for the first time used its largest non-nuclear weapon, aptly nicknamed the Mother of All Bombs, or MOAB, on a suspected ISIS tunnel complex in the same region of Afghanistan.
This is when at least one USA service member remains on watch while Afghan and US military forces are on patrol, dine together or are sleeping.
There are now 8,400 American troops in Afghanistan training, advising and assisting the Afghanistan army.
