The team has not been able to land an all-star free agent as of yet this summer, but Magic has been exercising to use patience considering guys like Paul George, Lebron James, and Russell Westbrook are all free agents next season.

Free agent guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope agreed to a one-year, $18 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to multiple reports. Caldwell-Pope's meeting came as he considers options after the Detroit Pistonselected to make him an unrestricted free agent last week.

The teams that still have significant salary-cap room to offer Caldwell-Pope a big contract, beside the Nets and Lakers, include Atlanta, Philadelphia and Phoenix. As our own Jonathan Adams broke down, the new-look Lakers roster features two new faces projected in the starting lineup and an interesting amount of depth as well. The Georgia product averaged 13.8 points per game last year, after tallying 14.5 points per game the year before. He averaged 11.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 314 career contests since being selected by the Pistons with the eighth overall pick of the 2013 draft. No matter what happens, the Lakers added a young, talented shooting guard to help Ball's transition to the National Basketball Association. The Lakers will have to figure out which route they want to go, as both Ennis and Rondo could fit into a role with the team.

One player to keep an eye on for the exception is point guard Rajon Rondo. It'd also be interesting to see how Caldwell-Pope and Clarkson would wind up on the depth chart at shooting guard, but it's hard to envision Clarkson being pushed back to the second-team at this point.

The Lakers now have $17 million in cap space but can get to $18.3 million in space.

The person who told the AP about the contract spoke on condition of anonymity Tuesday night because the deal hasn't been announced.

National Basketball Association players will nearly always gamble on themselves given the opportunity, and given KCP's youth (just 24), the role he so ably fills as a 3-and-D player and the potential he has to take another big leap forward, it's hard to fault his reasoning.
