A caution came out on the first lap when defending-champion Will Power was hit on the right side of his vehicle in Turn 3 by overall leader Scott Dixon.
American Josef Newgarden, ranked one ahead of Power in championship standings in fourth, won the race.
CART brought racing back, this time to Toronto itself in 1986, followed by Champ Car, IRL and today IndyCar, which will hold Toronto race number 33 Sunday on the 1.78-mile, 11-turn temporary street course.
