Trump's Approval Ratings After Six Months Are the Worst of Any President

Thirty-six percent of those surveyed approve of the president's job performance, which is six points down from his 100-day mark, while 58 percent disapprove of Trump's performance.

Nearly half of all Americans (48 per cent) see the country's leadership in the world as weaker since Trump was inaugurated, compared with 27 per cent who say it is stronger.

Trump also sent one of his private lawyers, Jay Sekulow, onto five Sunday talk shows to argue that there was nothing illegal about son Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting past year with a Russian attorney following a promise of damaging information on Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

More than six in 10 (63 per cent) of respondents in the poll said Mr Trump Jr's meeting with the Russian lawyer was inappropriate.

A Fordham University analysis found the two most inaccurate polls the week before the election actually came from NBC and the Los Angeles Times.

However, there was a big positive for Trump in the poll - 43% of the respondents marked him positively on the performance of the economy on his watch, to 41% negatives.

On the domestic policy front, 50 percent said they preferred the existing health care system, known as Obamacare, and only 24 percent preferred the Republican bill proposed by Trump as a replacement. Seventy percent say Trump has acted in a way that is "unpresidential".

The Republican base is somewhere between 34%-37% of polls; this means that if Trump's numbers continue to drop, it will suggest that Republicans are leaving him. The margin of sampling error for overall results is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
