US Warplanes Simulate Strikes Against North Korea's 'Core Facilities'

Trump warns 'all options' on table after North Korea missile launch

North Korea on Tuesday flew a potentially nuclear-capable Hwasong-12 intermediate range missile over northern Japan and later called it a "meaningful prelude" to containing the US territory of Guam.

"I was able to see parallel development of apartment houses that were developed by a joint venture investment between North Korea's local state company and foreign investors".

IN seeming contradiction to his top Cabinet officials, US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that "talking is not the answer" when it comes to reining in North Korea and its expanding weapons programme.

The U.S. has military treaties with both Japan and South Korea to help protect them.

In 1999, a year after its first test of a long-range ballistic missile, Kim Jong-Il declared a moratorium on missile tests and Washington eased sanctions.

Thursday's flyover follows North Korea's latest weapons test, the first ballistic missile fired over Japan, though various stages of rockets carrying satellites have landed to Japan's east and south.

Spain had condemned Pyongyang's launching of the ICBM that flew over the Japanese island of Hokkaido on Monday and asked the North Korean regime to renounce "its challenge to the global community" and declare a moratorium on its nuclear and ballistic testing. "We think that China has a role to play and we'd encourage China to do everything it can to bring pressure on North Korea to stop this".

Meeting late on Tuesday in NY, the council called the launch "outrageous", demanding North Korea cease all missile testing.

While it is hard to predict the long-terms consequences of the launch, in the short term, it was able to drive a certain wedge between the above countries regarding their further reaction to the launch, the expert concluded.

North Korea has been test-firing missiles at a rapid clip this year. Under the 1994 U.S. Questions remain about those and other issues, but Professor Koh Yu-Hwan at Dongguk University in Seoul told AFP that this week's launch was "a clear message" the North would not talk until it had nuclear-tipped missiles that could reach the US. To this end, North Korea is signaling that it may soon turn the Pacific Ocean into its own ballistic missile training ground and make its launches over Japan an accepted norm.

Moon said all available diplomatic actions, including new UN Security Council resolution, should be considered to completely isolate North Korea in response to the its sixth nuclear device test.

President Donald Trump told Chinese president Xi Jinping in Palm Beach in April that if China did not join the deterring and containing the North Korean regime, the USA would do it itself.

The problem, Samore told VOA, is not so much with Trump's tweets but "that [North Korean leader] Kim Jong Un is not interested in having a negotiation right now".

All the exhausted palaver about negotiating patiently with China about constraining North Korea is practically beside the point.

If the US and South Korea do feel it necessary to attack North Korea in a preemptive or retaliatory strike, that offensive would involve the same F-22s, F-35s and B-2 jets used in these recent exercises and the same kinds of missiles. This is also a way of driving a wedge into the U.S.'s alliances with Japan and South Korea.

North Korea's latest nuclear test is likely to pile more pressure on China to take tough action against its neighbor, but Beijing already doubts economic sanctions will work and says it is not its sole responsibility to rein in Pyongyang.

North Korea has been working to develop a nuclear ICBM capable of striking the US.
