At least five suspected militants and an Indian air force commando were killed Saturday in a fierce gunbattle in disputed Kashmir, police said.

The officers involved in the operation had first surrounded Chandergeer village in Bandipora districts Hajin area, following specific information about the presence of terrorists there.

"While the cordon was being laid, terrorists opened fire from several houses triggering an encounter. In the gunfight so far five militants have been killed and the operation is on", an Army officer said.

In another tweet, Vaid said LeT commanders Zargam and Mehmood were also killed in the operation. "Weapons and ammunition recovered".
