Our strategy has not changed.

Now though, any Chromebook or other Chrome OS device with Play Store-support will be able to download Microsoft Office for Android which could help more businesses get behind Google's low-cost full laptop alternatives.

Microsoft Office has been available on Google's Chromebook Pixel for a while now, but the arrival of the suite to all Chromebooks is a big move for Microsoft and a nod to the growing popularity of Google's lightweight laptops.

The experience is of course not as good as full desktop office on windows 10, but certainly, for K-12 level it should be more than good enough. As it now seems that all Chromebooks with Play Store access can now download Microsoft's productivity suite, it may be that consumer adoption of Chromebooks will increase as their productivity feature set improves. Google declined to comment. Thus, it is not known if the Office Suite apps are available for every Chromebook product.

As we have mentioned earlier, until recently, only a few Chromebooks were compatible with Microsoft Office. All devices can now download the Microsoft Office applications from the Google Play Store, no matter who manufactured the device. This scenario works out as a win-win for Google and Microsoft, increasing adoption of both Chrome OS and Office. The devices with screens larger than 10.1 inches need to be configured with an Office 365 subscription, and then only you can edit the documents on your Chromebook. The Samsung Chromebook Pro, for example, has a 12.3-inch display, which puts it in the paid bracket. Personal subscriptions to Office 365 cost $6.99 per month, or $69.99 a year.
