Thanks to the Accord, Honda won awards for three years straight. The Navigator beat out the Chevrolet Colorado and its Ford Expedition brother.

The Navigator, itself, closed 2017 with a 30.1-percent year-over-year increase in December sales. Among the redesigned Honda Odyssey, redesigned Volvo XC60 and brand-new Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the Swede reigned supreme.

The announcements were made Monday morning at the auto show's traditional location of the Cobo Center in Detroit. Only new or substantially changed models were eligible for the award, with judges considering innovation, design, safety, driver satisfaction, and value for the dollar as criteria. The 2018 Honda Accord, 2018 Volvo XC60, and 2018 Lincoln Navigator were the big winners this year.

"Even in low-end trims, it drives well and offers a strong amount of standard equipment".
