The Leicester City player had been expected for much of the day to be named Rafael Benitez's latest signing but there's been doubt thrown on the deal at the last minute.

Newcastle United have beaten West Ham with the race for Islam Slimani, who will be joining them on loan from Leicester City - despite his injury.

And the Gazette reported earlier this month that Slimani was "high" on the club's shortlist.

It's understood that Slimani's agent has been in contact with Newcastle about a loan switch, which would provide Benitez with the extra attacking firepower he believes his side requires to stave off the threat of relegation in the final 14 matches of the season.

It's also unclear how the many Facebook Groups which are focused on cryptocurrencies will be affected by the ban, if at all. Officials warned investors earlier this month that protections around cryptoassets are limited.

West Ham had hoped to land the Algerian worldwide, who cost the Foxes £29million when signing in the summer of 2016, on loan for the remainder of the season with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.

Slimani, 29, could be seen getting out of a private jet, set to undergo a medical this afternoon, with Newcastle having reached an agreement to loan him for the remainder of the season.

However, Leicester have told any Premier League clubs making an enquiry that they will only allow Slimani to leave on a permanent basis, with the asking price at around £20million.

Newcastle have moved for Slimani, who is now injured, after failing to meet Feyenoord's demands for striker Nicolai Jorgensen.
