Police said Khan was carrying a reward of Rs 15 lakh, out of which Rs 5 lakh was kept on him by the Delhi Police.
Ariz Khan, an alleged Indian Mujahideen operative arrested by the Delhi Police, was married to a Nepali Hindu woman, who later converted to Islam, and had managed to get citizenship of Nepal through fake documents, police said. His supposed aid in the Batla House encounter case and Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Shahzad Ahmed was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Khan was born in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh and studied there at different schools. The Batla House encounter took place six days after the serial blasts in Delhi's Pahargang, Barakhamaba Raod, Cannuaght Place, Grater Kailash and Govindpuri in which 30 people died while 100 injured. He was wanted by NIA, Delhi, Gujrat, Rajasthan and UP police. Pramod Singh Kushwaha, DCP, Special Cell Delhi Police, at a press conference told the media that, "The Delhi Police Special Team has arrested Ariz Khan alias Junaid, who had been involved in incidents of bombing and terrorist attacks, which also included the 2008 Delhi serial blasts".
He was also wanted in the Batla House encounter in the same year in which Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was killed. "He was ideologically much more radicalised than other members of the IM", police said. The marriage happened four years ago, the officer said, adding that she was unaware of his involvements in terror activities. Khan was arrested from near the India-Nepal border when he came to meet an old contact.
