Manning, who retired following the 2016-17 season after leading the Denver Broncos to a Super Bowl victory, is highly sought after to be an on-air personality by many networks, including FOX, who are still in the running for Manning's services. Sean McDonough is out as the play-by-play analyst on ESPN's flagship NFL broadcast, "Monday Night Football", after only two seasons. He has also called National Football League games for ESPN Radio since 2013. He reportedly will become just the sixth person to serve as the play-by-play for "MNF", following in the footsteps of Keith Jackson, Frank Gifford, Al Michaels, Mike Tirico and McDonough. How the exit of McDonough, who was solid in his two-year stint alongside Gruden despite college sports being his true wheelhouse, could affect Manning's thinking is unknown. He has called multiple sports in his career, including marquee events such as the World Series, NCAA Final Four, and the Olympics. McDonough's other CBS assignments included a diverse array of sports - men's and women's college basketball, NFL, golf, U.S. Open Tennis and the Olympic Winter Games.
