Since that time, the North Koreans have been quiet about whether they'll show up for the meeting and there have been no additional details about when and where it could take place.
It was the first tangible sign that Kim was still willing to meet with Trump since the North first proposed the summit last month.
Indeed, North Korea laid this out very clearly in the middle of 2016, calling Washington's insistence that it dismantle its nuclear program first an "absurd precondition" for entering talks, and instead listed five conditions of its own. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is scheduled to make a two-day visit with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, the president's resort near Palm Beach, Fla., to coordinate strategy between the allies.

Trump imposed a number of sanctions on North Korea and threatened Kim that he would respond with "fire and fury" if Kim's regime attacked the United States or any of its allies in the region.
The other part is the fact that Kim, a 34-year-old who has consistently defied low expectations over the past six years, is feeling more confident than ever.
It added the country also supports the North Korean leadership's efforts to hold talks with the South and the United States, in line with the "roadmap" Moscow suggested on pursuing a peaceful, step-by-step approach to end the crisis.
Though the relationship between Kim and Trump has not always been convivial. A State Department spokesman declined to comment.
South Korea shows little interest in urging North Korea toward a so-called Libya-style disarmament deal, which is a nonstarter in Pyongyang anyway, where the word "Libya" alone is interpreted more as a threat than a good faith offer for talks.
