The 35 year old actress has been arrested and charged with sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and forced labor conspiracy, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of NY.
Federal prosecutors say a television actress best known for playing a young Superman's close friend has been charged with sex trafficking for helping recruit women to be slaves of a man who sold himself as a self-improvement guru. Mack was arrested in New York City on Friday and will be held pending a bail hearing Monday.
"As detailed in court filings, in 2015, Raniere created a secret society within Nxivm called "DOS, ' an acronym that stands for a Latin phrase that loosely translates to 'Lord/Master of the Obedient Female Companions, ' or 'The Vow.' DOS operated with levels of women 'slaves" headed by 'masters'". She faces a minimum of 15 years in jail and could even receive a lifetime imprisonment sentence.
The "slaves" were expected to become "masters" by recruiting their own "slaves", who then "owed service not only to their own masters but also to masters above them in the DOS pyramid", the statement charged. "Mack is an alleged co-conspirator, reporting directly to Raniere".
The group claimed to be a self-help program but actually was pyramid scheme where people were exploited "both sexually and for their labor, to the defendants' benefit", according to U.S attorney Richard P. Donoghue.
